I purchased a digital camera online. I am a fan of online shopping but this company was very rude. I ordered a camera without knowing it was an import model, the slimy salesman told me this and so I purchased the US model instead ( For about $100 more. ( I checked the small print before so that I knew I was supposed to get the import with my initial purchase). He also told me I needed a memory card and said that the US model came with it so as to make me buy that model. He also failed to tell me the final price after shipping/tax to make it seem like a logical deal. i got the camera yesterday and there was no memory card. I was also charged twice as much for shipping and I am sure I still got the import model because the instructions manual refers to some of the accesories under ” for customers outside the US and Canada”, which I have that type, . what rights protect me so I can get my $$ back? I will contact them but since they’re dishonest,they’ll redirect me w/out helping me
First of all, you’ve fallen victim to the gray market camera industry. Often based in Brooklyn or NJ. They offer fantastic prices, but only because the normal extras like memory cards, lenses and warranties don’t come with the cameras.
They often attempt to get you to buy up to include those things, and the price of the camera ends up being no different than if you had gone to Amazon, or worse.
Once you put up resistance in the call to their attempts to sell you extras, they often become rude, and if you stand firm, will often just tell you they can’t sell you a camera or just hang up.
In your specific case, you were not given what was advertised or agreed to. Contact the seller by phone AND by writing, stating what the problems were and you want them corrected, or you want to return the camera without penalties. When, and I do mean when, they do not help you, go through your credit card company and dispute the charges. Tell them you’ve tried to work with the retailer with no success and document what you’ve tried. Eventually that will force the retailer to fix the situation or the CC will reverse the charges.
The bigger the stink you make and the harder you fight will directly correspond to how well the situation is resolved.
