My 18-55mm lens for my Nikon D40 X is catching and hard to turn once It is at 35…?
I got it out of my camera bag and was getting ready to take pictures of an annual Easter Egg Hunt and it wouldn’t turn easy past 35. It will turn, but with force, either direction. It usually turns smooth and with ease. I’ve never had this problem and don’t know how to resolve it. Can someone help? I’ve searched for help and have no luck. Thanks. If you need any more info let me know.
Thanks AMphoto. I do believe I am just gonna get it checked out and go ahead and upgrade. It isn’t so severe that it doesn’t focus, it just wont turn with ease. Thanks for your answers! =)
Doest sound good. If it still turns it at least means something hasnt jammed. I cant say for sure without testing it, but it sounds as if something good have gotten inside the lens, say a piece of dirt or something and is somehow impeding the zoom function. I dont think there is much you can do yourself. You might see how much it would cost to get it cleaned unless you feel tech savvy enough to take it apart yourself though I wouldnt recommend that. Its not a very expensive lens, so it you may just want to get a new one or upgrade. If its still pretty new you could call Nikon and see if maybe the warranty will cover it, because by all means it could be a defect in the lens itself.
