What is a good lens for the nikon d40x DSLR?
I just got this camera for christmas. I was just wondering what are some good not so expensive lenses and accessories that I can get for it.

If you have an extra $300-$350 or so here is what I would reccomend you get.
1 – Nikkor 55-200mm VR lens. It is a great lens at an incredably affordable choice. Image quality from this baby is very nice. The VR is one of the most helpful features in my opinion because of how well it actually works. The VR compensates for camera shake and allows your pictures to come out sharper, it also allows you to shoot at lower shutter speeds. Its also a great lens to pair with the standard kit lens (assuming thats the lens you have). Between the two you are covered from a range of 18-200mm, thats a great start. 2 – Getting a tripod is a must, expecially if you plan on doing and early morning/evning/night shooting or studio work. While the VR is great it doesnt replace a tripod by any stretch of the imagination. Here is a cheap-o basic one that will be fine. However if you plan on hiking and carrying a tri-pod with you almost everywhere look into a tougher and lighter model. Any local camera store can help you with that, otherwise this will do.

3- Lastly get a remote. For only $20 you cant go wrong. I bough one with the intention of only using for a class project, its now one of my favorite little gadgets. I use it for every picture I take while my camera is mounted on the tripod whether its really nessisary or not. Also its great again for the low light shooting situations.
