sending camera for repair in japan?
i bought this japan model ixy910is from bic camera in osaka japan a few months back. then recently i got this dust inside my lense, tried to send it to canon singapore but they want to charge like 1/2 the camera’s cost! as the warranty only valid in japan.
wonder anyone sent the camera for repair in japan before and how its done? how long they take to fix it and does the warranty covers things like dust in the lense?
try to compute the cost. my parents bought an LCD projector when they were in singapore because it was cheaper then. a few months of use the bulb went out and need replacement. so send back to singapore they did. you’ll have to pay the shipping and probably the custom tax (when it returns) which was very high in our country. converted, it’s about $400. consider the waiting period to have your camera back and also the competitiveness of the courier handling your item.
im unsure about your custom duties. you might want to research on how much you are going to spend by sending it to japan compared to how much you spend having it fixed there.
as for electronics, i always buy locally because of the warranty. im hope my answer enlightened you in some way. goodluck.
