I need a great Wide Angle Lens for Canon Camera! Trip to NY Soon!?
I have a Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera. I am planning a trip to New York and would like to have a great Wide Angle Lens to capture Times Square, City Scapes and other sites. I would love to have one that does close up photography/Macro as well. My local camera shop says that Sigma and Tamron 18-50mm lenses are great for around $400 yet depending on what I read and where I’ve read it the opinion varies on that one from person to person. I also spoke with another Photographer who stated the Tokina 12-24mm is a great lens that she loves to work with. I would rather pay more for a lens that I’ll be happy with than spend on a piece of junk. Thought it might be a good idea to ask some photographers since I’m just getting started with SLR cameras and lenses instead of point and shoot cameras.
I’d see what you can get in the canon lens range first…but Sigma’s and Tamrons are nice too…so if you wanted to go a step down on the Fstop, and save a little, go w/ a sigma or tamron….however if thats not an issue, I’d go w/ a canon.
Visit http://www.dpreview.com and http://www.bhphoto.com for more info….BH is great because u can buy directly from them, they are reliable, and well priced!
You need to decide yourself what works best for you, the 12-24, ]or the 18-50! Just remember to multiply by 1.6 to get your True mm distance! I would lean more towards the 12 for true widenagle…..but I wouldn’t go w/ the Tokina….I personally would stick to Sigma or Canon.
