Help! How to operate a Canon EOS Rebel 2000?
My sister left me her EOS Rebel 2000 which I have no idea how to use since it requires real film in comparison of my basic knowledge only on operating digital cameras. It was something that she gave me a few years back since she had a new digital SLR. So basically, this camera has not been in use for at most 2 years…
Basically what I want to know is that if there is anything wrong or some error I should expect since I have not touched it in two years. Also, what should I do? How do I get the batteries and film for it? I have no prior knowledge at all in operating a manual (non-digital!) camera that I dont even know where to start. HELP!
Do you have the manual for the camera? If not, Canon’s website has a section where you can download the manuals to their cameras. I’d suggest you look at that to begin with, it’ll probably answer a lot.
I have a slightly different model of the 35mm Rebel, but I’m guessing it should be pretty much the same. The batteries should load somewhere on the bottom of the camera. If there’s batteries in it now, check to see what kind they are or look in the manual to find the correct type. As far as film, any 35mm film will be fine, you can find it at any grocery or drug store. You can also order it online (good option if you’re looking for black and white film), I use bhphotovideo.com. Kodak and Ilford are good brands. To load the film in your camera, you just open up the back (there should be a little latch on the side), place the roll in the left side, then pull the leader (the piece of film that’s sticking out from the reel) out to the right side, there should be and orange mark for the edge to line up with.
I’m assuming you’ve never used an SLR camera of any type before? If so, you might want to start out on one of the fully automatic or partially automatic modes until you get the feel of the camera, and then you can start practicing with the manual mode. AV and TV are good modes to work with once you’ve learned how aperture and shutter speed works.
