Which camera should I choose?
Nikon D3000 or Canon EOS 1000D / Digital Rebel XS
Here is a side by side comparison http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=nikon_d3000%2Ccanon_eos1000d&camsel=nikon_d3000&show=all
They are just about the same price. Which would would you choose? Why?
*I am a beginner photographer, and would just like to take pictures with fast shutter speeds, manual focus, good zoom, and a all around good and easy camera!
I think Nikon cameras are easier to operate, just because I understand the way they think. I have to admit that I am a Nikon user and I have a bias towards Nikon, but I will quickly admit that the Canon is an excellent camera. It depends on a couple of things. You have to go to a store and pick each one up. Even if you don’t quite know what you are looking at, one may feel better to you. The buttons might have better spacing for your fingers on one or the other.
Do you have a friend who owns a Nikon or Canon? That might influence you also. If you have to ask someone questions, it will be easier if they use the same brand as you. A higher end camera in either line will work a bit different from these models, but at least your friend will have an idea where to look without referring to the owner’s manual.
Go here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos1000d%2Cnikon_d3000&show=all and click on “Read owners opinions” under each camera. Then you can click on the mini-reviews by actual owners of the cameras and see if that helps you decide.
