SIGMA CAMERA LENSES REVIEWS
Which is a better lense for my situation? Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens vs Nikon 55m?

Hi, I’m an amateur that just picked up photography. I’m going to be taking a lot of pictures for my club next year and I was wondering which lens would be good for what I plan to take. A lot of active movement outdoors, general photography of people posing for the camera, indoor activities in lit rooms, general photographs at events. Pretty much a good versatile all around lens. I’ve narrowed it down to
( I’ve read these types of lenses are good for movement such as sports events )
- Nikon 55mm – 200mm f/4-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR
- Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens

so considering my lack of knowledge for lenses, which would be a better match for my needs? I’ve read reviews and I’m sort of swaying towards the 55-200 Nikkor because it’s just more forgiving given the VR..Thanks!
Thanks for the advice!

VR is super important when you are running around shooting everything.

With the list of the things you said, i would lean torwards the 55-200mm. You will need the 55 for indoor activities in lit rooms, and the 200 for outdoors.

And the VR is a huge plus

the 300 would give you a little extra reach, but without VR you need super great lighting.

I believe Nikon has a 75-300mm VR? that might suit your needs better.

Additional consideration: for indoor activities, you might need a really fast lens, because it is indoors. Unless you have a lightsource as big as the sun in there, you won’t have good lighting. So might i suggest a fast 50mm for indoors.
